Well finally some progress has occurred. Yesterday was the deadline for the house. We were panicky all day because our lender was still trying to convince the underwriter that they should in fact loan us the money. We were pretty sad because we didn't think things were going to work out so we pretty much were giving up on the house and deciding if we wanted to rent for a few months or if we should start looking again right away. Then something magical happened our Realtor called with the suggestion that we get in touch with the listing agent and use their lender, that way they would know that we have good credit and that isn't anything wrong with us that it was GMAC (the stupid lending bank). So we went over to the lender gave him our stuff and he said no problem and we are scheduled to really close on Tuesday! We really think it is going to happen this time because with this lender the underwriter works for him. So hopefully we will finally be home owners on Tuesday. Please keep your fingers crossed and doing your special close the house dance to help us out but we'll let you know as soon as we do.
Oh to boot when the lender sent the appraiser over the house GMAC had already been there (last Thursday) and had winterized the house and taken the lock box off the front door. Whoops. Don't worry the house isn't foreclosed or anything I guess it was just a mix up at head quarters. Gotta love GMAC.

You're closing tomorrow at 3!
This is the phrase we've heard for the past 2 days. We were suppose to close last Thursday but that didn't happen so they pushed it Monday then that didn't happen it was Tuesday and then it was suppose to be today at 3. Well here we are at 6:30 and we still are not home owners!
Apparently the hold up lies with the bank itself. Because of the low interest rates everyone and their dog has refinanced. Well because of the difficult economic times banks had to cut about half the people who helped with the financing prior to the low rates. So now with the influx the banks are running way behind and hence the reason we are living in mom's basement. Hopefully we will close by the end of the week but we aren't holding our breath if we had done that we would be dead now.

House Blues
So at this point I should be blogging from the comfort of our new home. Too bad so sad. We were all excited to close on our house yesterday but unfortunately that will not be happening until probably next week.
Apparently GMAC, the bank who owns the foreclosed home we are buying and is also the bank we are going through to get our mortgage, is so overwhelmed with people refinancing their homes that they can't get to us and our home until sometime next week. Now tell me if this makes sense to you.
This house that we are buying has been loosing money for them for a few months now and instead of putting people in there who will help them make some of that money back, the are going to put people, who are already making them money, ahead of us. Why wouldn't making more money be a priority? I don't know I guess that is why I don't' work for a bank.
It's just lame because Rich was going to fly back this weekend to get all our stuff and move it out but now we have to push that back to next weekend. So for now we are kickin it in the in-laws basement which isn't bad but its never fun living in someone elses house. You just feel in the way.

Whoosh
So things have happened really fast this past week. Last Wednesday we drove up to Casper, WY for me to take the NCLEX. Why Casper? It was the quickest place I could get in to take the test. So we did that on Wednesday found out my results on Friday, I PASSED!! Yeah. Still can't believe it but holy crap I'm a nurse now (I'll blog about the whole experience later). Then we drove out to SLC on Sunday, actually we tried but our car broke down half way there. So we had to get towed to the nearest town and then had to have a friend come and pick us up from there. We finally made it to SLC about 12:30 and then I had my first day of orientation at Salt Lake Regional! Whew, I'm tired. So I had orientation on Tues and Wed as well and then we where suppose to close on our house today. Well I guess they are little backed up at the bank and now it sounds like we won't close until next week. Lame. So for now we are kickin it at the in laws just waiting for the freakin bank to light a fire under it! All our stuff is in Denver while we are out here. Kind of crazy but that is how we roll.

NCLEX
The panic, worry and studying for hours on end is finally over, I took the NCLEX this morning! I've never known such glorious relief, actually when Dex was finally born might match this. I can't believe I took it so fast but its going to work out perfectly for our plans with SLC. I had to take the test in Casper, WY because every other testing site was book until Febuary. My test was scheduled for 8am but they tell you to get there at 7:30 to check in. I thought this would be a simple process where I show my ID and walk in. WRONG!
So I get there and they make me show my ID then I have to sign an electronic signature pad. Next I get my fingerprint scanned and have my picture taken. Then they tell me to put everything in a locker that I can lock but I have to keep my ID out. Then I get to sit and wait. Finally they call me back and I have to go back to station in front of glass windows that see every computer in this testing room. Again they ask me for my ID and scan my fingerprint again. They then have me turn out my pockets and pat myself down to prove that I'm not taking anything into the testing center that I could cheat off of. Finally the proctor hands me my dry erase board and walks me into the computer testing area. She sets me up at the computer and away I go.
After gathering my thoughts for bit, because I feel like I've just been interrogated for a crime I didn't commit, I start the test. I was shocked and surprised at just how much I thought I knew which gave me confidence but then which scared me because what I thought I knew and what was actually right would be two very different things.
The crazy thing about the NCLEX is that you don't know how many questions are you are going to get. It's a computer adaptive test so if you get a question right you get a harder question next time, if you get a question wrong then you get an easier question. Also if you you are doing really good or really bad they will only give you 75 questions. If you're borderline you could get up to 265 questions. So you go in not knowing how or even when you are going to come out.
As I'm nearing question 75 I'm getting nervous, what if the test keeps going? What if it shuts off? All these different thoughts are running through my head. As I finish question 75 and hit the next button the screen goes blank and starts to load something.
My first thought is, "oh great I broke the dang thing and I'm going to have to start over." Then this blessed message appears, "You have completed the NCLEX" I about pee my pants with excitement(that comes with having a kid) and stand up to leave. Not what I was suppose to do. The proctor waves me back down to a sitting position and then comes over to me and leads me out of the room where I have my fingerprint scanned again and my personal belongings returned to me.
Then I realize it's over. I'm surprised too because it only took me an hour to take the test. So after 24 hours I pay 10 bucks and get my unofficial results and I find out I've passed! Yeah for me. Now in about 2 weeks I'll get my license and then I'll be able to work as a nurse! I'm still in shock that its all over and that if I wanted to I would never have to study again. That is best feeling in the world.

Chunko monko!
So Dex had his 2 week wellness visit today. Rich and I were having bets on how much he weighed. On our 2 day visit from the hospital he was down from 6lbs 1oz to 5lbs 14oz. Well today he weighed in at a whopping 7lbs 3.5oz! What a chunk. He totally gain a pound and 3oz in one week and three days. He knows how to pack it on. Go Dex!

Scooter Loss
We have been a victim of crime. Apparently two nights ago a couple of guys were driving around the parking lot saw our cute little scooter, backed their truck up to it picked the scooter up and put it in the truck bed and drove away. How do we know this? It was all caught on security camera, the bad part is because it was at 2:30 in the morning you can't see details to get a license plate or anything so kiss the scooter good bye. The police came and took a report but its just too hard to find a vehicle that hasn't been registered with no identifying marks. I hate thieves they always take the good stuff.

Recovery
So now that I've had the kid I kinda expected my body to go back to normal much faster than it has. For one I still look like I'm 4 months pregnant and I can't even begin to imagine fitting into my pre-prego jeans. I've tried its just not working.
What's worse is I've developed pre-eclampsia which is basically high blood pressure which usually happens in pregnancy and is resolved by having the baby. Well my body is different and likes to do things backwards so I got it after the baby was born, well actually it began in labor. So now I'm on blood pressure medication. My Doc doesn't think I will be on it forever but I'm still in shock and pretty sad that I have to been on it at all. Third, I can't wait to sit on hard surfaces again. I never realized how many uncomfortable hard chairs we have until now. I can really only sit in two places in our house and the third is stacked three pillows high so I can sit. Ahh the joys of childbirth right?

Labor
December 28th seemed like every other day I was fat and pregnant ready to have a kid but still felt like my body wasn't doing anything. Little did I know that would all change. I went to bed that night with what I thought were gas pains. These weren't ordinary gas pains but then again I had just eaten a lot of ham and bean soup. About 5:30 on the 29th I woke up and went to the bathroom and to my surprise I was bleeding. I woke Rich up and called my midwife. The first question she asked was are you having contractions?
I replied "I don't think so I've been asleep though." For those of you who don't know my sleeping powers I will explain I can sleep through anything apparently even labor!
Well we didn't have to wait long to see if we were having contractions because all of sudden I started to notice them. At first they were coming every 8 minutes then we'd get them every 6 then every once in awhile we'd get one at 4 minutes. After an hour of counting them we called the midwife back and we decided we would wait until 9 when the office was open and they would check me. I was really surprised at the strength of the contractions. I had thought that I could do the whole natural thing but after an hour of pain and know that things were only going to get more intense before they got better I was excited to get in and get an epidural.
Well we get to the office and Rich and I are excited but we are thinking ok we might be at 2cm and they will just send us home so lets not get our hopes too high. Well she checks me, which by the way feels like she is trying to feel my tonsils through my vagina, and it turns out I'm 7cm!!!
We then take a walk over to the hospital and get admitted. As soon as possible I get an epidural. GOD BLESS EPIDURALS!
We continue to labor, in pain yeah, and about 4:30pm I'm dilated to a 10 and we are ready to push. So we start pushing. They try everything with me, pushing on my back pulling my legs back, pushing on my side pulling my one leg up, pulling on a blanket while I push. Nothing is working. About 2 hours into baby is very uncomfortabley far into my pelvis and I'm getting way to tired to do anything. The pain is unrelenting as my epidural starts to wear off. Lame. It wore off to the point that I could feel it when they catheterized me, not fun. They gave me a bolus to get through the rest of it and called in the doctor with the jaws of life (forceps). The doc gets a good hold on baby and with on big push and pull baby is born! The relief I feel is great.
They place him on my tummy and there you have it, I'm a mom. I think because of the craziness at the end of the delievery everyone forgot that we didn't know what we were having. Rich was the one who had to look and then told me we had a baby boy! It was the most amazing experience of my life. I was so grateful for Rich who was there every step of the way, he was the best birth coach ever I would not have made it without his support for sure.
So here HE is Dexter Gray Rasmussen 6lbs 10z, 20inches long born on the 29th of Dec.
And yes he is cutest baby in the world.
