He's Uno

So Dex has turned one! Officially it happened on the 29Th we had the unofficial birthday party on the 26th so the grandparents could all be there and see the fun. He was so cute he totally devoured his cupcake we made him and had a really fun time.
My parents were out for Christmas and brought my little chair that I use to sit in when I was a kid and Dex absolutely loves it. He sits in it all the time. It was a great a party.

Sarah was also there and her and Dex got to play together.

Christmas

So Christmas has come and gone already I can hardly believe it. We had a our very first christmas dinner in our new house! It was so much fun but so busy! Rich and Ry the gourmet chefs they are made a killer prime rib. I decorated the table with my mom's hand cross stiched tablecloth and my Grandma Sue's china. The table looked fantasic and it was really yummy. Next year I"ll be more than happy to go to someones though, a lot less clean up for me!

I forgot to mention santa dropped by although he looked a little sort and thin!

Winter Fun

So we found the coolest free thing to do in winter! Believe it or not. The Olympic park in park city is free! They have a whole ski museum which has a few games which are fun but really not all that exciting. The best part about driving all the way up there is when the skier are practicing. It was so awesome you get to walk up super close to the jumps and then watch these crazy kids huck themselves off of them. It was so cool definitely recommend it. I think they will be practicing every Saturday from 12:30-3:00. Definitely worth the drive.

Fake Tile

So Rich probably hates me now because every time he turns around I have a new project for him. This last one turned out a be a bigger one than I thought it would be but the results are beautiful. Our entry way was tiled with rust red 70's tile but we found these really cool stick on tiles at lowe's for only 88 cents and the results are amazing! Check it out.

After

Rich did a really great job I'm lucky that he knows how to do a bunch of handy stuff like this. I was planning on doing it myself but the results wound not have been this good.

Time off

So since I've had time off with my appendix I've actually got some projects done around the house! I was able to paint the bathroom upstairs and I even re-painted the bedroom. When we first moved in we painted it all HGTV styles and found we didn't like it so I finally fixed it yeah! Here are the results.

Also I'm really excited because I bought a mandarin orange tree this summer and almost killed it when we had to go to the fair but miraculously it has come back to life and it is about ready to give me it's first orange!

Grow little orange grow!

Hot Tub

So when we bought our house we kind of noticed it had a hot tub in the backyard. We were disappointed though when we found out it didn't work. That is till now! We totally have it up and working. Well a couple of jets don't work and the blower, which is used for the tiny bubbles that come through the seats don't work, but it holds water and its warm! We are so excited. We sat in it last night, actually Rich did I just dipped my legs because I don't want my incisions to get infected and it was nice! I even has a light in it yippee.

Appendicitis

Wow so did I have the craziest night ever on Tuesday. It started out like any normal night at work until about 9pm. At this point I was chatting with co-workers and drinking a carton of milk. I took one swig and as soon as that milk hit my stomach I knew I was in trouble. Right away my stomach felt bad. I thought I was getting lactose intolerant shrugged it off and went about my business, or at least I tried.
It started getting more and more painful. I tried drinking sprite, that didn't help I tried eating crackers, no good. My friend at work made me some herbal tea and gave me some wheat thins. Nothing. So then I thought maybe I need to vomit that might help, didn't then I thought maybe it's gas, sorry no luck there. So I go to the doctors room and lay my head down to see if little nap will help. About 5 minutes into my nap the CNA walks in tells me my one patient has a ridiculously high blood pressure. UGGHH!
So I get up walk all the way down the hall into the patients room its a little dark in there and he is sitting on the edge of the bed. I walk up to him and ask when is the last time you urinated? He responds "2pm" and then falls on his side on the bed unresponsive. At this point I panic. I start yelling his name but he doesn't answer. I pull the emergency button and yell "I need some help in here" just like on TV! Everyone comes racing in. I turn on the room light and he is purple. We get ready to do CPR but luckily he has pulse so all we have to do is breath for him. Easier said than done, he had bowel surgery a few days prior and was now chocking on some sort of fluid. The code team final comes in the room and they prepare to intibate him (that's were they stick a tube into his lungs so we can breath) That's a success so finally his color is turning pink again yeah!
This whole time my stomach didn't hurt at all and I thought oh good it passed I'm going to be ok. Finally the finish working on him and transfer him down to the ICU.

About 20 minutes after the code I'm back to just hurting so bad. This was about 3am. Finally at 5am I decide I'm going to go the ER because this is just too much I've never had pain like this so I pass off my patients and go down.
They run some blood tests push on my stomach, ouch, then do a cat scan. What do you know my appendix is inflamed and must be removed! So into surgery I go. IT was my first surgery so it was very strange. All I remember of the operating room was being wheeled in there and then they put something in my IV and I was out. I woke up in my hospital be up on the floor. Yeah I got taken care of by the exact same people I work with. Talk about awkward. It was cool thought because they took really good care of me and it was fun to see everyone with my greasy hair and my butt hanging out of the back of my hospital gown, not really. So there it is I've officially had surgery and survived. Now recovery is the hard part because I have to take it easy and not lift a whole lot or do a whole lot. That's not easy to do with a 10 month old.

Sunflowers

My sunflowers were amazing this year I couldn't believe how huge they were! SO I decided it would be a good idea to try to make sunflower seeds that we could eat. So I downloaded a recipe and went to work. Here is how it went
First I went outside and cut the heads off the sunflowers. This felt weird because the stalk was so thick I actually felt like I was cutting an actual head off something. So I off all the heads. Look at the size of these babies!

Next I had to get all the seeds out of the head. Which sounds simple enough until you try to do it. Those little seeds are stuck in there. So you have to push and pull and rip and tear, its almost a workout. While I'm doing this I begin the realize that there are more than just seeds in these sunflower heads, apparently a lot of other bugs decided to take up home there. So while I'm rip and tearing seeds I'm also battling earwigs and spiders and unidentifiable little beasties that are upset because I'm ruining their home.
This process takes about an hour. Finally I have the seeds now I have sort through them and pick out all the parts that aren't seeds all the while avoiding the icky bugs, gross.
So another half hour rolls by and we are ready for take off. Now we soak the seeds in lovely dill pickle mixture for about 8 hours then bake.
All in all it was an interesting experience but way too much work for something that is so cheap. Will I do it again probably not but I'm glad that I did once.

Fair

The fair is here and gone thank goodness. It's always fun to go up and work with a bunch of high schoolers and hear about boys and drama of being a teenager but it is way more fun to come home and enjoy the peace and quiet of our house. It is so good to be home.
Dex had a fun week with Grandma Henderson. She spoiled him like a good grandma should, he got tons of new clothes and even learned a new trick call so big.

I guess I use to do the same thing when I was little except at the time was wearing my favorite cool whip bowl as a hat. Yeah I've been stylish for a very long time.

Dex has also started to pull himself up to things the first time he did was at the cabin, it took a little coresering but it finally worked.

That weird noise you here is me freaking out. I never knew I could sound like a fire engine, just another skill to add to the list I guess.

Birthday

Rich's b-day was in August and I surprised him with a pretty fun gift. For awhile he has been talking about how he would like to learn to fly. Then I heard an add on the radio for a flight school at the airport that does discovery flights for only $100 bucks. So I surprised him for his birthday. It was really fun he sat in the pilots seat and helped take off and flew us up over park city and then he helped land the plane as well. It was really neat and we were very high in the air probably only 1500 feet. Dex and I got to ride in the back and Dex loved it. Here are some pictures from the flight.

Garden

Three of our backyard fences are covered in grapevines. We were very excited about this when we moved in but we are even more excited about it now since the grapes have started to ripen. Its so fun to go outside and pick a bunch to eat. I could get use to this. The only problem is we have a ton of them. I think all of our friends will be getting some and I better learn to make grape jam quick!

Remember the garden I planted way back in spring. Well it almost died because we weren't watering it enough but thankfully my raspberry and strawberry plants have made it. They haven't produced anything but at least they are still kickin it. The sunflowers I planted on the other hand are freaking huge and glorious! Here are some pics I can't believe how big they are.

Growing up fast

We had some big events this last week first of all Dex took his very first big boy bath in the real bath tub. He did really good and seemed to just love it the whole time he was in it. Caution there is nudity in the following video.
What a cutie! We also went up to Idaho to visit Rich's dad. While there we were hanging by the river and set Dex down in the grass and what do you know the kid starts crawlimg for real. He is totally motoring everywhere now, its really fun to watch him.
So I feel like Dex just grew up this last week, crazy kid. We also got to hang with Cassie and Shawn and the kids. Josie really enjoyed hanging out with Dex.

It ain't easy being cheesy

So this is Dex's cheese smile he gives it all the time especially when he really likes something. He does this smile then breathes out of his mouth making a funny sound. This pic was taken after a scrumptious meal of sweet potatoes and peas. He was helping by holding on to the spoon and putting it in his mouth the only difference from when I do it is that he like to breath out when he does it, hence the food all over the place.

Wormy Squirmy

Although it's not officially crawling we call it worming and it allows him to get around, and boy does he. I can't believe how fast sometime so small can move. We really have to keep our eyes on him now.

These are just some cute pictures. He has started to do the funniest smile when he catches your eye he'll crinkle up his eyes and breath through his gums making a hee hee sound. Unfortunately he does this while moving so getting a picture of it just may be impossible but I"ll keep trying.

Updates

Well I haven't blogged in awhile. Dex is growing so fast we just had his 6 month check up, that's right 6MONTHS! he is 28 inches long 18 lbs 9 oz in the 95Th percentile for height (surprised?) and 75th percentile for weight. He is growing like a weed I can't believe how fast it is going. He is getting really close to crawling too.
Crazy huh?

This weekend I busted out my crafty side and made a diaper bag. We had been using the free one they give from the hospital but it has gotten way too small so check it out it.

I'm pretty impressed with it, its the first thing I made that has actually turned out since I was 12 and my grandma showed me how to sew an apron.

Tired

So this last weekend was a lot of fun but was hard on Dex and his sleeping. So this morning when I put him down for a nap we found him like this.
I think he was just a little tired from all the celebrating.

Graduation

This weekend was fun we went to Denver to watch my sister graduate from nursing school. It was a lot of fun. Tallie graduated from the same school I did and I forgot how happy I was to be done with the place. Here are some pictures from the festive day.

To celebrate Tallie's big day we had a BBQ and went swimming it was Dex's first time in water and he did really good. He didn't cry or anything. I'm not sure he really enjoyed it all that much though but we had a good time with him.
